One of the nation’s largest hospitals has acquired a 30-year-old imaging practices and its 21 locations, leaders announced on Thursday.
Tampa General Hospital is assuming full ownership of Tower Radiology, ballooning its statewide roster of outpatient imaging locations to 83. Founded in 1992 and one of the region’s largest physician-owned practices, Tower Radiology has for years worked with the 1,041-bed hospital, which previously held a 50% stake in the business.
“The full ownership of Tower Radiology will have a significant impact on our ability at Tampa General to increase access, maximize efficiency, drive down cost and enhance quality while passing that value on to the healthcare consumer,” Adam Smith, executive vice president of ambulatory services, said Jan. 6. “It will also allow Tampa General to expand to an enterprise-wide imaging platform that allows for more coordinated patient care.”
Tower Radiology employs a total of more than 65 board-certified physicians, with expertise in 11 subspecialties. Its centers cover a wide swath of the Sunshine State, including Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas and Palm Beach counties and provide the full complement of imaging services. Tower previously announced multiple partnerships with TGH, opening a 5,000 square-foot breast health center in October 2020 and a dedicated PET/CT center in December.
