Fairfax Radiological Consultants, the D.C. metro area's largest practice, purportedly had employed over 500 individuals as of 2019, but by April 2020, its roster was down to fewer than 100.
Radiologists are currently calculating what it will require to resume routine imaging in a climate that’s vastly different from the one they remember a few months prior.
These emergency providers offer a range of services, including x-ray, CT and ultrasound, but current regulations do not allow them to bill public payers.
Such centers are the country’s largest providers of primary care and often cater to underserved patient populations and individuals without health insurance, the company noted.
The ACR hopes these changes, including the addition of diagnostic performance feedback, will help reduce the number of patients with incidental nodules lost to follow-up each year.
