Mobile x-ray unit in Ireland used for tuberculosis screening
Ireland is using its first mobile x-ray unit to test homeless people throughout Dublin for tuberculosis.
The testing is a collaboration between the country’s Health Service Executive National Social Inclusion Office, St. James Hospital in Dublin and a medical charity called Safetynet Primary Care, according to a new report from Irish Medical Times.
Safetynet Primary Care operates the unit, taking it to “sites easily accessible by homeless people and vulnerable migrants.” X-rays taken on the vehicle are then read by a team of radiologists.
“The mobile unit is a good example of the partnership approach lending additional support where necessary to services around the country to care for vulnerable people in our communities,” Diane Nurse, a representative from the Health Service Executive National Social Inclusion Office, said in the report.
