UT Dallas professor earns prestigious award from ISMRM
A. Dean Sherry, PhD, has been awarded the Gold Medal Award by the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) for significant achievements made over the course of his 40-year career.
Sherry is a professor of chemistry and the holder of the Cecil H. and Ida Green Distinguished Chair in Systems Biology at UT Dallas. He is also a professor of radiology and director of the Advanced Imaging Research Center at UT Southwestern. He is viewed as a pioneer in his field, and his interests include the development of imaging agents used for MRI.
Sherry has accomplished a great deal in his career, but he is still quick to say he’s not alone in his achievements.
“What I have accomplished in my career is a very small part of the advancement of the field,” Sherry said in a statement published by UT Dallas. “The success of MRI takes a lot of people making small contributions that add up to something big.”
The ISMRM is an international organization with over 8,000 members from 58 countries. Two individuals received the Gold Medal Award in 2015: Sherry and Christine K. Kuhl, MD, from Germany.
