CIVIE introduces 2 new AI tools, both proven to save radiologists time while improving report quality and increasing revenue potential
CIVIE, the company behind a comprehensive digital ecosystem that is singlehandedly shaking up the radiological AI market, has released two AI toolkits that can be used alone or together. Either way, the software is capable of ratcheting up radiologist efficiency by double-digit percentages. Early users say the new offerings are more powerful — yet lower-priced — than similar products from other suppliers of radiology IT solutions.
The first of the two offerings, called CIVIE Automated Impression Generator (AIG), uses natural language processing to render dictated findings as the radiologist’s own impression. The software goes beyond transcribing dictations to automatically organize the image reader’s key clinical observations in clear, concise and formatted text. In doing so, it leaves no lapses between the radiologist’s findings and the report’s clinical impression. After completing the dictation, all the radiologist has to do is proofread the draft and revise any portions that need fine-tuning. In real-world use, CIVIE’s AIG has proven capable of boosting radiologist efficiency by more than 30%.
The second new product, CIVIE Nitro, takes the concept of efficiency a stride further: It lets the radiologist complete a report while barely doing any dictation at all. When findings are normal, the radiologist says nothing. He or she only vocalizes any abnormalities. If the imaged anatomic regions are mostly normal — as some 80% indeed are — Nitro completes the relevant report fields accordingly. In the process it slashes dictation times by as much as 45%. Radiologists who used to average 200 imaging reads per eight-hour shift now complete upwards of 350.
With the AIG, the radiologist maintains full ownership over the impression despite the major assist from a highly competent “assistant.” Upon signing the report — whether structured or unstructured — he or she can instantly share the document with the referring clinician. For the patient, the ultimate upshot is an optimized clinical outcome preceded by a positive exam experience.
“With these new AI-powered capabilities, all three immediate stakeholders — patient, clinician and radiologist — enjoy unhindered turnaround times combined with uncompromised clinical accuracy,” says CIVIE CEO Dhruv Chopra. “The time savings translate to significant reductions in repetitive or unnecessary dictations. The consistency in report formatting and nomenclature brings confidence in diagnostic reliability. And, for radiologists, the maximized efficiency and productivity can yield not only bigger paychecks but also higher job satisfaction.”
Other automated actions native to the CIVIE AIG:
- Generates impression draft automatically upon radiologist dictation of findings
- Integrates with most voice recognition and radiology reporting products
- Complements various natural language processing (NLP) and structured reporting templates
- Parses text, identifies key clinical entities and applies appropriate algorithmic rules
- Structures dictated findings into a clear, concise and standardized impression statement, then places the statement at the end of the radiology report
CIVIE’s AIG and Nitro work best when seated inside the company’s foundational AI model, Omega. Omega was developed by members of CIVIE’s in-house staff, which counts among its ranks approximately 250+ software engineers, 80 data scientists and 20 AI specialists. Unlike generic tools, Omega is tailored to the complexities of medical terminology and radiology workflows, ensuring outputs are not only precise but also contextually relevant to each case.
Count Krishna Das, MD, among the many radiologists who rely on CIVIE software, including the AIG as well as Nitro, to help him work to the top of his license.
“CIVIE’s AI-powered radiology dictation solution has been an absolute game changer for me,” says Das, who practices with 45-rad Sol Radiology in Victorville, Calif., a 90-minute drive inland from Los Angeles. “Two key components of the product — the findings mode called Nitro and the Automated Impression Generator — have taken my efficiency to the next level. I’m able to keep my eyes on images at all times and dictate my findings in real time. Less than three seconds after I finish dictating, I have the completed draft of a template-based report. The impression even comes with guidance-based recommendations for follow-up.”
Dr. Das isn’t done yet. Calling CIVIE’s digital ecosystem “one of the best innovations I’ve seen since my first days of training,” he adds: “Being able to report my findings and see what the AI model generates brings back an element of fun and excitement to my everyday work.”
CIVIE CEO Chopra is delighted with — if unsurprised by — the glowing feedback.
“The rollout of our AIG and Nitro toolkits marks a transformative step in the evolution of radiology,” he says. “It shows how AI can help ensure clinical precision, streamline complex workflows and, ultimately, improve patient outcomes. The only thing we have to warn radiologists against is coming to rely too heavily on any AI-powered tool. These digital tools exist to help the radiologist. It should never be the other way around.”
The releases of the Automated Impression Generator and Nitro follow earlier rollouts of products and services developed by CIVIE and loved by technology-forward radiology practices and departments. These include AI-powered workflows, business intelligence aids, data transparency enablers, and interoperability and integration facilitators. What all CIVIE offerings have in common is being part of an expanding and continuously improving line of purpose-built software solutions for high-performing radiology operations.
