Radiologist left bloodied and unconscious following unprovoked attack

An interventional radiologist was left bloodied and unconscious following an unprovoked attack in Portland, Oregon, according to reports published this week.

Mary Costantino, MD, had just left a bar with a friend after 10:30 p.m. on July 28 when an unidentified man approached them. The attacker hit her in the face with an aluminum water bottle.

The physician said there had been no confrontation leading up to the incident, nor signs of danger. Constantino credited her friend, who yelled at the attacker, for saving her from further harm.

“Had it not been for this person being with me, it would have, I think, been a lot worse," Costantino said.

The Portland Police Bureau confirmed the incident, calling it an “unprovoked and brutal attack.”
