Dubai Health Authority utilizes AI to streamline health exams

The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) is using artificial intelligence (AI) to sort chest x-rays that detect tuberculosis, a test which is a mandatory requirement for all expats desiring a visa to stay in the UAE.

On average, the 19 DHA-operated fitness centers testing for infectious disease process more than 17,000 chest x-rays per day. It is estimated that 90 percent of the tests turn out to be normal x-rays.

Utilizing AI, it is expected the algorithm will “standardize the reporting methods and streamline the entire system.” The time spent in surveying the images with be drastically reduced, giving radiologists time to examine other cases.

Upon validation, all DHA-operated fitness centers will adapt AI in 2019.
