New Delhi radiologist commits suicide after alleged bullying from colleagues
A consultant radiologist with Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi has committed suicide after accusing three doctors at the hospital of “humiliating and harassing” her while she was heading an inquiry related to misconduct against them.
Poonam Vohra, 52, left behind a suicide note in her bedroom accusing the doctors of humiliating and harassing her before hanging herself at her government residence in New Delhi’s North Avenue on Wednesday, Feb. 6, according to a report published online by The Hindustan Times.
“There was just one line written in her suicide note—that these three doctors had been humiliating and harassing her. We learnt that she was heading some department inquiry related to misconduct against the three doctors,” Madhur Verma, deputy commissioner of the New Delhi police, told the media outlet. “We are yet to question the hospital administration and the woman’s colleagues to find out more about these allegations; the content of the note is also being verified.”
Vohra’s family members told police she had been depressed for the past few months but wasn’t undergoing any treatment. The names of the three doctors mentioned in Vohra’s note have not yet been disclosed.
Hospital administration officials have not yet commented on the issue, according to the article.
