The American Association of Physicists in Medicine’s (AAPM) 58thAnnual Meeting is set to start July 31. The program will include presentations of new research, lectures and other events centered on the theme of “Communicating our Value. Improving our Future.”
The theme is meant to re-introduce the role of the medical physicist in radiology practices and academic settings, according to a statement by AAMP President Bruce Curran. He framed the meeting as a way to gain knowledge and renew energy to allow medical physicists to reassert themselves in their professional settings, where some in the field feel they are “relegated to the role of technicians” and grant opportunities are waning.
“We need to reverse these trends in order to survive and thrive,” Curran said in the statement.
Topics of presentation include brachytherapy devices, medical physics, radiation and cancer, ongoing certification processes, regulatory updates, bone health imaging, and diagnostic imaging, among others.
The conference, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., will run through Aug. 4. Attendees can follow along through the event’s mobile apps, to check out presentation and social schedules.
Prospective attendees can register online or on-site, and registration for SAM credit will also remain open through the conference.
