Mass General rolls out clinical trial imaging tool powered by Blackford Analysis

Boston, MA and Edinburgh, UK – November 11, 2014 – Blackford Analysis, a provider of software products that accelerate comparison of medical images, today announced that its software has been successfully integrated into a tool developed by Massachusetts General Hospital’s Tumor Imaging Metrics Core for its Precision Imaging Metrics system that helps radiologists and oncologists coordinate to generate clinical trial imaging results with enhanced efficiency and quality.

“We developed our Precision Imaging Metrics Manager technology through our Tumor Imaging Metrics Core (TIMC) to optimize quality and accelerate clinical trial imaging for the five Harvard hospitals of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC) and are now providing other Cancer Centers with the same system,” said Dr. Gordon J. Harris, co-Director of the Tumor Imaging Metrics Core at Massachusetts General Hospital, and Professor of Radiology, Harvard Medical School. “Having tools integrated into our system to quickly register medical images across time provides us with enhanced accuracy and efficiency for ensuring quality.”

The Precision Imaging Metrics team has implemented Blackford’s MatchedCrosshairs functionality, which enables radiologists to simply click on a location in any scan to instantly bring up the same location on multiple scans from different times and/or different modalities (e.g. CT with MRI), all with a single click.

In addition to internal use, the Mass General’s Precision Imaging Metrics system with the integrated Blackford registration tool has also been rolled out to Cancer Centers at Yale University and the University of Washington in Seattle, and is in the process of being implemented at the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah.
