Chesapeake Bay imaging network chooses Viztek for PACS
Mid-Atlantic Imaging Centers, which serves as the imaging provider for more than 70 physicians within Norfolk, Va.-based Mid-Atlantic Women’s Care, is going with Viztek for PACS.
Mid-Atlantic had been shopping to replace its legacy PACS, according to an April 8 announcement. The provider said it selected Viztek’s Opal-RAD system to upgrade its mammography reporting while also integrating its PACS with all modalities, including tomosynthesis, as well as with its billing, scheduling and dictation systems.
Mid-Atlantic also cited Opal-RAD’s scalable and cost-effective storage capacity. Many of its radiologists are contracted, and its sites perform more than 15,000 screening mammograms and more than 2,000 diagnostic exams each year.
“We have always been able to have a 24-hour turnaround, but to have these reports available immediately has become invaluable,” commented Mid-Atlantic manager Gail Trimyer on the practice’s early experiences with its new PACS. “Sometimes the patients are not out of the office before the report is generated and distributed electronically back to the physicians.”
North Carolina-based Viztek added that, down the road, Mid-Atlantic Imaging Centers will save a good deal of time when reporting to comply with the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA). An automated MQSA component is built into Opal-RAD and was lacking from Mid-Atlantic’s prior PACS.
