Sectra, the global supplier of healthcare IT and image-management systems based in Sweden, has closed a sale in its home country worth more than $24 million.
Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, one of the largest university-affiliated hospitals in Europe, chose the company for RIS and PACS products and services, signing a multi-year contract that effectively extends an existing partnership of more than 15 years.
The new agreement includes the replacement of an earlier Sectra system, along with new functions such as dose monitoring, statistics tools and advanced volume visualization.
According to a Sectra news release, the updated service is the first of its kind in Sweden. The company will assume total responsibility for technology, administration and service of the hospital’s radiology IT systems. Plus it will fold in PACS components to “form a comprehensive service with high demands on availability, performance and safety.”
For its part, the hospital said it believes a long-term partnership of this type is important for “achieving an efficient and purpose-designed service. … The partnership requires that the service has the possibility to be continuously developed.”
Sectra is the top vendor in its category in Scandanavia, with more than 50% of all film-free installations, according to the company. It reported worldwide sales of about $101.8 million last year.
Karolinska University Hospital has about 15,000 employees and 1,700 patient beds. It is closely affiliated with the 205-year-old Karolinska Institute.
