Canadian Gov't Highlights Imaging with $6.9M Grant, Federal Recognition
A day after the Canadian government declared its inaugural Medical Imaging Team Day, the House of Parliament got behind another subspecialty initiative to the tune of $6.9 million, which will be spent to broaden innovation in image-guided oncology and cardiology therapies, according to an announcement from FedDev Ontario.
Led by the Sunnybrook Research Institute and Western University, a coalition of 19 technology partners "will accelerate the commercialization of four new image-guided therapy systems...so that patients can be treated through minimally invasive procedures on an outpatient basis," the announcement reported.
The government expects the initiative will not only stimulate economic growth and create jobs, but will also help to cut back on the length of patient hospital stays in a country where imaging usage has doubled from 2004-2010.
