Canopy Partners Adds Randolph Hospital to Regional Imaging Archive

Canopy Partners announced that Randolph Hospital in Asheboro is joining the company’s growing regional database of archived radiology images. Diagnostic tests performed at the hospital will now be more readily accessible to thousands of area physicians. The database – called the “Canopy Regional Imaging Timeline” – is one of the first region-wide repositories of radiology study images in the nation, with more than 600,000 imaging studies stored annually, according to the press release. Physicians at any participating facility can log into a single system to review tests previously performed for their patient as part of the continuum of care. In addition to Randolph Hospital, Canopy Partners stores study images for Alliance Urology, Chatham Hospital, five hospitals in the Cone Health network, Cone Health physician practices, Eagle Physicians, Greensboro Imaging, Greensboro Radiology, and Vanguard Brain and Spine Specialists. Many additional facilities across the region use the Canopy platform for short-term storage of diagnostic studies for initial physician review. Canopy Regional Imaging Timeline is built on an open, standards-based medical image and information management platform from Philips IntelliSpace. Virtually any type of digital imaging data can be stored, regardless of the type of system used to create it. A team of more than two dozen Canopy specialists supports the service, including software developers, system administrators and help desk personnel. In addition, the Canopy Regional Imaging Timeline may help eligible providers meet the Stage 2 Meaningful Use "menu" requirement that imaging studies be accessible through a patient's electronic health record. "It definitely helps with this Meaningful Use requirement," said Stephen Willis, chief information officer for Canopy Partners, in an email to ImagingBiz.com. "If a physician’s patients are imaged within the facilities covered by the timeline, we can (and for most facilities do) send them a special set of code in the HL7 radiology report than builds a link to that study on the Canopy Timeline within that physician’s EHR. That link can be utilized to open the patient study directly for review."
