Royal Philips Completes Sectra Mammography Acquisition
In a transaction worth 57.5 million Euros, Royal Philips Electronics, parent company of Philips Healthcare, has completed its acquisition of the mammography business of Linkoping, Sweden-based Sectra, a PACS and digital mammography developer.
Headquartered in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Royal Philips paid 57.5 million euros ($82 million U.S.) for the business, of which it assumed control yesterday. The transaction included Sectra’s worldwide mammography modality operations, with the exception of those in Australia and New Zealand. There, Sectra will continue to sell and service its MicroDose full-field mammography units under terms of a separate agreement with Philips.
The divested operation accounted for 14% of Sectra's net sales for fiscal year 2010 to 2011 and has approximately 110 employees. Sectra expects the deal to will allow it to focus on developing its medical imaging IT business, as well as its orthopedics, osteoporosis assessment, and rheumatology portfolios.
