Former breast cancer center business manager gets 33 months in prison after stealing nearly $200k
The former business manager of a breast cancer center has been sentenced to 33 months in prison for wire fraud and tax fraud, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney David C. Joseph.
Sarah J. Broussard of Youngsville, Louisiana, stole nearly $200,000. She was sentenced on one count of wire fraud and one count of making and subscribing a false income tax return. According to the announcement, she began embezzling from the cancer center in 2009 and continued until 2014. She did not report the stolen money as income, leading to the tax fraud charges.
In addition to her prison sentence, Broussard was sentenced to three years of supervised release and must pay more than $197,000 to her former employer. She must also pay an additional $48,838 to the IRS.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel J. McCoy prosecuted the case. U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr. sentenced Broussard.
