JACR podcast takes on the "chargemaster"

The Journal of the American College of Radiology Firing Line Podcast took on the inflated world of the "hospital chargemaster" in a recent episode, welcoming Seth Stein, MD, a radiology resident at Cornell Medical Center. A necessary evil in the convulted U.S. healthcare system, the chargemaster sets prices for services much higher than what insurance companies end up paying after a negotiation process.

The Firing Line team breaks down how prices are set and why low-cost items are marked up higherhopefully giving listeners a more nuanced understanding of the complex role the chargemaster plays in the care process.
