Linda Moy, MD, resigns as editor of RSNA’s flagship journal, plus more leadership news

Linda Moy, MD, has announced she is stepping down as editor of the Radiological Society of North America’s flagship journal, Radiology.

The RSNA Board of Directors has accepted her resignation, with Moy staying on until Aug. 31. A professor of radiology at New York University, Moy is leaving so she can focus on her new role as inaugural vice chair of AI in NYU’s Department of Radiology.

“Dr. Moy and her editorial team have been extremely dedicated to advancing the quality and visibility of Radiology during her tenure,” Jeffrey S. Klein, MD, RSNA chair, said in a statement March 10. “We are grateful for her service and wish her well in her new role.”

The society first selected Moy as editor in late 2021, with her taking on the title in January 2023. RSNA plans to conduct a search process for a new editor, with details to follow soon. At NYU, Moy will seek ways to enhance the specialty’s value, RSNA noted, which comes during a “critically important stage of innovation for radiology and medicine.”

“I look forward to returning to research, clinical work, and mentoring at a time when the complex environment of academic medicine needs to pave the way for deliberate applications of AI technologies and how they will be operationalized,” Moy said in the RSNA announcement. “I will continue to support the important mission of the RSNA; It has been an honor to serve as the editor for the flagship journal of our field.”

New chair in Nebraska

The University of Nebraska Medical Center has named Ryan Lee, MD, MBA, as the next chair of its Department of Radiology, effective Aug. 1.

Lee departs from a Jefferson Einstein, part of Jefferson Health, where he has served as radiology chair and professor. He holds expertise in the clinical deployment of AI, healthcare economics, and quality and safety, UNMC noted.

“I am thrilled that we have been able to attract an experienced and visionary academic and clinical physician of Dr. Lee’s caliber to lead the department of radiology,” Bradley Britigan, MD, dean of the UNMC College of Medicine, said in a statement March 12. “He will build on the excellent clinical care provided by the department, while furthering development of its academic programs.”

Lee replaces Matt DeVries, MD, who has served as interim chair since replacing Craig Walker, MD, who left in December 2023 after two decades. The new chair said he sees artificial intelligence as critical to the specialty’s future.

“AI is going to transform radiology—similar to how voice recognition dictation systems, PACS and cross-sectional imaging revolutionized how we practice,” he said in the announcement. “Given the challenges facing radiology and healthcare in general, this is the time to invest in this technology, so we can give radiologists and other physicians the tools they need to provide better and timelier care.”

The ACR hopes these changes, including the addition of diagnostic performance feedback, will help reduce the number of patients with incidental nodules lost to follow-up each year.

And it can do so with almost 100% accuracy as a first reader, according to a new large-scale analysis.

The patient, who was being cared for in the ICU, was not accompanied or monitored by nursing staff during his exam, despite being sedated.
