Baton Rouge hospital's new mammography bus provides DBT on the go
Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge, La., celebrated Independence Day by announcing it has added a second “mammography coach” to its fleet of care-delivering vehicles. This new bus offers digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), or 3D mammography, to women throughout the area.
BRProud.com, home of WVLA and Fox44, spotlighted the news on Independence Day. Cynthia Rabalais, director of imaging services for Woman’s Hospital, discussed the importance of both DBT and this brand new vehicle.
“We are proud to bring 3D mammography, the highest level of breast cancer detection technology, to women experiencing geographic, financial, and cultural barriers to proper breast care by focusing on areas where mammography and diagnostic services are not readily available,” Rabalais said. “The overall goal of the program is to reduce Louisiana's breast cancer mortality rate, which is the second highest in the nation, through early detection.”
