Free Clinic of Southwest Washington receives $7,000 grant to fund imaging services

The Free Clinic of Southwest Washington in Vancouver, Washingtong, received a $7,000 grant to help fund x-ray and ultrasound services.

The Free Clinic provides free healthcare to low-income adults and children. More than 600 providers volunteer for the clinic, which is funded by donations.

The grant came from the ESCO Foundation, based out of Portland, Oregon, and is expected to help pay for services for approximately 140 of the clinic’s uninsured patients.

“Imaging reassures our patients,” Stephen Ebner, MD, a volunteer orthopedic specialist at the Free Clinic, said in a statement. “Knowledge is powerful. It can relieve worry for people who already face plenty of life challenges.”

The ACR hopes these changes, including the addition of diagnostic performance feedback, will help reduce the number of patients with incidental nodules lost to follow-up each year.

And it can do so with almost 100% accuracy as a first reader, according to a new large-scale analysis.

The patient, who was being cared for in the ICU, was not accompanied or monitored by nursing staff during his exam, despite being sedated.
