Hard performance feedback drives productivity gains among Sutter radiologists

Productivity surged without additional work hours in the medical imaging division of Sutter Health in Sacramento when radiologists received data-driven performance metrics, according to the company that supplied the data tools.

Philadelphia-based Montage Healthcare Solutions issued a release stating that the Sutter division saw an increase in productivity of some 31% within eight days of receiving relevant analytics info. The results were presented Oct. 10 by Sutter’s Patrick Browning, MD, during a Montage user-group meeting at the University City Science Center in Philadelphia.

“It is necessary to turn data into information,” stated Browning, according to the release, adding that administrators have historically been the primary users of data analytics while radiologists have typically expressed a wariness regarding performance metrics.

Montage said the imaging division “developed an action plan that assured information was accessible and assessable,” enabling radiologists to take “increased ownership of their individual as well as group performance.”

Specifics on methodology and sample size were not given in the release
