Radiologists among America's top earners: U.S. News | Rad shortages hit UPMC | GE nabs 2 FDA OKs | HDHPs impact cancer outcomes

Members of the specialty earned a median salary of approximately $239,200 last year, based on survey data gathered by the media company last fall. 

UPMC, Pennsylvania’s largest hospital system, is reportedly struggling with radiologist shortages, which are forcing the organization to prioritize urgent imaging orders in some cases. 

Previous research has shown HDHPs can decrease utilization of imaging and other radiology services, but it’s unclear how they impact cancer outcomes. 

One regulatory approval targets whole-body PET imaging analysis, while the other was designed to improve interventional workflows.

New findings highlight the lingering issue of gender inequity in the field, the effects of which extend well beyond career growth for women. 

The rad was accused of writing a “confusing” report that allegedly had long-lasting implications for the plaintiff's child, who was born with severe birth defects. 

Both recalls are categorized as Class 2, which the FDA designates for issues that have the potential to “cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences."

Backed by private equity investors at Grovecourt Capital Partners, the Florida firm is buying National Radiology Solutions for an undisclosed sum.
