Melissa M. Chen named new chair of ACR CPFCC Economics Committee

The American College of Radiology’s Commission on Patient- and Family-Centered Care (CPFCC) announced Thursday, July 5, that Melissa M. Chen, MD, has been named the new chair of the CPFCC Economics Committee. Amy Patel, MD, will be the committee’s new vice chair.

The CBFCC collaborates with outside organizations and professional medical societies to help ensure patients receive care that properly addresses their “needs, wants and values.” In 2017, the commission surveyed patients to learn how radiologists can provide more value by playing a more active role in day-to-day care.

“I am honored to chair the commission’s Economics Committee as we work to respond to the results of the 2017 patient survey,” Chen said in a prepared statement. “We’re eager to follow-up on that survey to assess the different scenarios in which radiologists engage directly with patients. We also want to identify barriers that exist to patient engagement, and solutions to overcome those barriers.”

 “As a breast radiologist, I’m looking forward to working with the Committee to develop a standardized survey for mammography patients across various practice types, which we’re aiming to be used to satisfy the MIPS Improvement Activity requirement,” Patel said in the same statement.
