ACR announces 2 updates to LI-RADS, integration into AASLD guidance
The American College of Radiology (ACR) Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS) Steering Committee has developed a new version of CT/MRI LI-RADS that is now in line with similar guidelines published by the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD).
“By implementing two minor changes to CT/MRI LI-RADS, we were able to unify LI-RADS with AASLD,” Claude B. Sirlin, MD, chair of the LI-RADS Steering Committee, said in a prepared statement. “Harmonizing these two guidance systems for liver imaging will further reduce imaging interpretation variability and errors, enhance communication with referring clinicians, enable the collection of standardized data, and ultimately yield better patient outcomes.”
One change was related to criteria for small LI-RADS category 5 observations. The other change simplified the definition of threshold growth.
More information on CT/MRI LI-RADS v2018 is now available on the ACR’s website. The next update is expected to occur around 2021.
