University of Toronto, IMS to assess radiology resident performance with simulations
The University of Toronto’s Department of Medical Imaging has signed an agreement with International Medical Solutions (IMS) to use its IMS Web Viewer solution for assessing the performance of diagnostic radiology residents.
The agreement is part of a larger RSNA-funded study examining how well simulations can assess residents before they are scheduled for after-hours emergency shifts. Residents from 20 universities—10 from Canada and 10 from the United States—will participate, using IMS Web Viewer as part of a simulated emergency radiology department.
IMS Web Viewer has been approved by the FDA and is compatible with a wide range of devices. It allows users to engage with interactive assessments using full-fidelity DICOM images.
“The objective of our study is to determine the competency of our residents using this high-fidelity, realistic simulation experience,” Eric Bartlett, a professor and program director of diagnostic radiology at the University of Toronto, said in a prepared statement. “We hope the 'Sim' will enable our residents to better understand their roles in the emergency radiology setting, including all of the tasks and responsibilities that will be expected of them.”
“IMS is proud to play a key contributing role in this important study,” Vittorio Accomazzi, CTO of International Medical Solutions, said in the same statement. “As a partner to educators, hospital administrators, and physician-led service providers, IMS is committed to ensuring exceptional care is being delivered to patients by well-trained radiologists throughout North America.”
