September started with some clouds in the shapes of data breaches and imaging fraud. Happily, the downers didn’t get the last word. On the 29th, Congress passed bipartisan legislation containing the fifth version of the Medical Device User Fee Agreement (MDUFA V). If President Biden signs the bill, the FDA can draw almost $2 billion in user fees by 2027—as long as the agency does its job and does it well. To get there, FDA will have to work harder at collaborating with industry on innovation. AdvaMed, MITA and MDMA all cheered the news. Here comes the sun?—Dave Pearson, editor
