Strategic Radiology expands to its 23rd state, adding 48-physician new member practice
Strategic Radiology has expanded into its 23rd state, adding a 48-physician new member practice in South Carolina, leaders announced Thursday.
Based in the coastal city of Myrtle Beach, Carolina Radiology Associates is the state’s largest private imaging group. Physicians founded the hospital-based practice in 1978, and it today provides 24/7 diagnostic and interventional imaging services to five partner hospital organizations in South Carolina. Those include industry giant HCA, McLeod Health and the Medical University of South Carolina.
“We are keen to join the Strategic Radiology national coalition of independent groups as we scale our practice,” Richard J. Wunder, MD, an interventional radiologist and president of Carolina Radiology’s Myrtle Beach Division, said in a Feb. 22 announcement. "We anticipate further benefits by joining a nationwide network of independent radiology groups, including many neighbor practices in North Carolina and Georgia."
In 2015, the practice merged with Florence Radiological Associates, which had been in business since 1974. Carolina Radiology now operates as two separate divisions, with the second one 60 miles northwest in the city of Florence.
Strategic Radiology now represents a total of 1,700 physicians working across 37 private practices.
