Northwest Radiologists joins growing coalition of independent, private radiology practices

Bellingham, Washington-based Northwest Radiologists is joining Strategic Radiology, an independent coalition of imaging groups, the two announced on Thursday.

The 20-physician practice is the second Evergreen State group to join SR following in the footsteps of Skagit Radiology in Mount Vernon.

“In joining Strategic Radiology, we aim to remain competitive in our market and thrive as an independent physician-owned practice,” Stephen Buetow, MD, president of Northwest Radiologists, said in a June 13 announcement.

The radiology group serves four PeaceHealth hospitals, providing subspeciality interpretations across the Washington communities of Bellingham, Friday Harbor and Sedro Woolley, along with Ketchikan, Alaska. Northwest Radiologists maintains a “robust community presence,” according to the announcement, operating six centers under the Mt. Baker Imaging brand via a joint venture with 10-hospital PeaceHealth. Along with most modalities, the centers also offer interventional radiology services.

Strategic Radiology highlighted Bellingham as a “coastal haven for outdoor enthusiasts, surrounded by the Salish Sea, the North Cascades, and the lush forests of the Northwest.”

“We are excited to grow our presence in Washington state with Northwest Radiologists, a vital, quality-minded, independent radiology practice that has served Whatcom County patients and their referring physicians for more than 50 years,” Scott Bundy, MD, CEO and chair of Strategic Radiology, said in the announcement.
