Aaron Maxwell, MD
Dr. Aaron W.P. Maxwell, MD, is an accomplished interventional radiologist whose research interest focuses on developing new techniques and approaches to improve clinical outcomes for cancer patients following minimally-invasive image-guided procedures such as thermal ablation and transarterial radioembolization. He has experience in clinical, translational, and basic science research and he has participated in and actively overseen multiple projects.
Dr. Maxwell currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors at Rhode Island Medical Imaging, a large subspeciality outpatient private practice where he is employed as a staff radiologist serving patients within Rhode Island and Massachusetts. He is also the chief of vascular & interventional radiology at Rhode Island Hospital and the director of interventional oncology at Brown University Health Cancer Institute where he treats cancer patients with an emphasis on cancers of the lung, liver, and kidney.
He is co-principal investigator on the METEORITE trial that is evaluating the effects of combined radioembolization and immunotherapy on patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. Dr. Maxwell previously served as principal investigator on a prospective grant-funded evaluation of a novel thermal accelerant compound designed to augment the effects of microwave ablation in lung tissue for the treatment of primary and metastatic cancers in the thorax. He’s also investigated the effects of acidosis on tumor microenvironment immune function to identify opportunities for locoregional modulation of response to immune checkpoint inhibitors to improve outcomes for patients with primary and secondary liver cancers. His dedication to research is further exemplified by his receipt of the National Institutes of Health Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award.
