Alliance Buys Controlling Interest in Radiology 24/7
Alliance HealthCare Services, which operates 120 fixed-site imaging centers and provides mobile advanced diagnostic imaging services to over 1,000 hospital customers across the US, recently purchased a controlling interest in teleradiology services provider Radiology 24/7. The company provides subspecialty final reads across all modalities to clients in 16 states. “We’ve been in discussions about this for nearly a year,” explains Sonny Patidar, MD, founder and president of Radiology 24/7. “On a cultural level, there was a very strong synergy between the two organizations, and we saw the opportunity to build something very sustainable and strong together.”
Once Radiology 24/7 has been fully integrated into Alliance’s operations—which Alliance’s chairman of the board and CEO Paul Viviano says will happen by the end of this year—the company will offer Alliance clients and potential customers full-service professional radiology services, final subspecialty reads, “tele-locums” coverage for radiologists taking time off, affordable access to a PACS offering, and more.
“We are asked regularly by our customers to assist with subspecialty final teleradiology capabilities, so that’s what initially piqued our interest,” says Viviano. “Radiology 24/7 has developed a very compelling value proposition, and it’s our goal to match that with the needs our customers have expressed. We are now in the process of educating our sales force with the details of Radiology 24/7’s services and matching up needs that have already been articulated to us so we can begin to reach out to those customers in a proactive way.”
Patidar concurs. “Alliance has such a significant customer base that may benefit from our services,” he says. “For example, PET/CT and MRI are large parts of the mobile and fixed-site imaging business, but now Alliance is expanding to offer women’s breast health care centers. Hospitals are interested in this program, but the radiology groups may be hesitant to provide the breast subspecialty reads.”
Radiology 24/7 will be able to leverage its existing infrastructure to provide subspecialty reads for all of Alliance’s clients across all modalities, Patidar says, including mammography and breast MRI. He adds that Radiology 24/7 has a successful track record of tailoring solutions to meet the needs of healthcare organizations of all types and sizes, including health systems, hospitals, radiology groups, and specialty physician groups.
Radiology 24/7 has other offerings that may be of interest to Alliance’s customers as well. “Many of Alliance’s clients are critical access hospitals, and we can expand our PACS solution out to them,” Patidar notes. “We’re in a position to help Alliance expand its offerings to its client base, and in turn, that helps us grow our business significantly while simultaneously helping the facilities we serve provide exceptional patient care.”
