Royal Philips Taps Into North American Mammography Market
Royal Philips Electronics has entered the North American mammography market with the introduction of MicroDose Mammography, a full-field digital mammography (FFDM) solution. The solution is said to administer a lower dose of radiation compared to other FFDM systems, without compromising image quality.
According to the company, MicroDose is the only U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-cleared mammography system that utilizes X-ray photon-counting technology. The latter renders it possible for images to be captured with up to 50% less radiation, while preserving their caliber.
Additionally, Philips executives say, the MicroDose photon-counting detector technology also presents opportunities for future breast applications not typical of other FFDM systems, providing the option for continued advancements beyond 2D anatomical breast images in an easy and cost-effective way.
