ACR Monitoring Barium Shortage

The American College of Radiology (ACR) is monitoring an ongoing shortage of barium products used for fluoroscopy, and warns that distribution may not normalize for a few more months due to a backlog of orders. ACR advised radiology practices to take measures against the shortage, which might include performing tests that do not require barium, using substitutes for available barium products, referring patients for endoscopy, and/or prioritizing barium examinations.
