New York Times Blasts Medical Device Industry
The efforts of organizations like the Medical Imaging Technology Alliance (MITA) to end the medical device tax that went into effect this year drew the sharp rebuke of the New York Times' editorial board.
The “paper or record” is well read by legislators and their staffs, and the editorial board specifically called out liberal Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Al Franken (D-Minn.) for their support for ending the medical device tax that was voted into law along with the Affordable Care Act.
The paper supported the position of President Obama that any damage the tax may do to medical device manufacturers is more than offset by the huge increase in potential customers they will get as the great majority of Americans will be required to sign up for medical insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
