Pennsylvania Adds Breast Density Inform Legislation

The Pennsylvania House and Senate have both unanimously approved a final version of Senate Bill 358, an act requiring the notification of breast density to patients who receive mammograms. Pennsylvania Governor Thomas W. "Tom" Corbett is expected to sign it into law before the end of the year. The law will take effect 90 days after it is signed by the Governor and will make Pennsylvania the 13th state with an enacted law according to legislation tracking by Are You Dense Advocacy. The bill was introduced by Republican State Senator Bob Mensch and was supported by the PA Breast Cancer Coalition, a non-profit breast cancer advocacy, education and fundraising group. Under the new law, mammography reports and other written communication sent to patients by mammography providers must include the patient's breast density information based on the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System established by the American College of Radiology.Read the bill text here.
