First outpatient radiology practice to open east of I-15 and U.S. 95
Outpatient diagnostic imaging services are coming to northeast Las Vegas residents for the first time with the opening of the new Desert Radiologists office on Monday, July 28. The $2.5 million, 8,000-square-foot facility is located at 31 N. Nellis Blvd. in the Charleston Commons Shopping Center. It will be the only imaging center east of I-15 and U.S. 95.
“We’re pleased to make radiology services more accessible and convenient for residents in this underserved area for diagnostic imaging,” said William P. Moore II, chief executive officer of Desert Radiologists, Nevada’s largest provider of leading edge medical imaging and one of the country’s largest private diagnostic imaging practices. “Medical testing can be a cumbersome process for patients, who already may be worried about their diagnosis. Our new office can make it much easier for them to get needed testing on an outpatient basis so they and their primary care doctor can move to the next step in the diagnosis process, treatment or resolution.”
A staff of 30, including board-certified radiologists and other specially trained technical and support personnel, will provide a variety of imaging services covering:
· CT scan or computed tomography – combines X-ray and computer equipment to produce cross-sectional images of body tissues and organs;
· DEXA scan or bone densitometry – measures bone mineral density;
· Fluoroscopy – makes a moving picture of internal organs through an enhanced
X-ray;
· MRI or magnetic resonance imaging – uses a strong magnet and radio waves to provide clear and detailed diagnostic images of internal body organs and tissues;
· Mammography – examines the breast using X-rays;
· Ultrasound or sonography – obtains diagnostic images from inside the human body through the use of high frequency sound waves; and
· X-ray – produces diagnostic images of the human body on film or digitally that allow doctors to view and assess broken bones.
The new outpatient radiology office also will accommodate the diagnostic imaging needs of many of the 165,000 hospitality workers and their families, who are covered through the Culinary Health Fund and live in the northeast area. Desert Radiologists and the Culinary Health Fund entered into an exclusive five-year contract for medical imaging services earlier this year. The contract covers more members than any other union in Nevada.
Desert Radiologists operates five other American College of Radiology-accredited full-service outpatient facilities throughout Las Vegas and Henderson. The practice has 62 board-certified, subspecialty-trained radiologists.
The project architect for the new Nellis Blvd. office is Las Vegas-based X-9 Design Group, and the general contractor is North Las Vegas-based JMB Construction.
