Grant awarded to explore gut-brain relationship in HIV-positive patients
Cristina Granziera, MD, PHD of Massachusetts General Hospital was granted $77,495 to study the gut-brain relationship in patients with HIV.
Non-invasive imaging (magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography) will be used to conclude whether HIV-positive patients with dysbiotic or imbalanced, gut microbiomes have higher brain inflammation than HIV-positive patients with normal gut microbiomes.
The Campbell Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports innovative HIV and AIDS research, funded the grant.
