Samsung continues foray into diagnostic imaging with radiography unit

Samsung is adding a new digital radiography unit to its growing roster of medical imaging equipment, receiving FDA 501(k) approval for the GC70 Digital Radiography system.

“The GC70 is leading a new generation of digital radiography systems that will make x-rays safer and healthcare more efficient for both patients and care providers,” said Philip Sullivan, Samsung NeuroLogica President and CEO. “With FDA clearance of the GC70 and the GM85, health systems have two powerful new options for inpatient and ambulatory settings that represent affordability with quality care.”

The GC70 is compatible with a range of x-ray detectors and has a variety of configurations, allowing it to be used in venues including dedicated chest rooms, outpatient clinics and orthopedic practices. One particularly useful feature improves the visibility of lung nodules by reducing the appearance of the ribs and mediastinum, improving diagnostic accuracy.

NeuroLogica is a Boston-based imaging technology firm that was acquired by Samsung in 2013, as a part of Samsung’s desire to expand their healthcare footprint. While smaller than the diagnostic imaging divisions at rivals such as GE Healthcare and Philips Healthcare, Samsung NeuroLogica offers equipment across a range of modalities including ultrasound, radiography and CT.
