Rodeo becomes unlikely contributor to hospital’s mammography machine
The 2017 Poway Rodeo, held outside San Diego, donated $3,500 to the nearby Palomar Health Jean McLaughlin Women’s Center, becoming an unlikely contributor to the center’s effort to purchase a 3D mammogram machine.
“The Poway Rodeo has a long history of supporting breast cancer research and treatment, and we are especially excited to partner with the Jean McLaughlin Women’s Center to strengthen their local effort,” said Murray Bankhead, Poway Rodeo Committee chairman to the San Diego Union Tribune. “PRCA cowboys nationwide proudly endorse breast cancer charities to increase awareness and promote healing. It always resonates well with the fans, too.”
The funds were collected as tip donations from patrons at the rodeo. The hospital is now halfway to its goal of $435,000 for the unit.
“The women in our community deserve this new technology,” said Sheila Brown, Palomar Health vice president, continuum of care. “Earlier detection is our goal.”
