This Mother’s Day in Georgia, annual mammograms come with a free massage

A Covington, Georgia, practice is encouraging everyone to treat their loved ones to an unusual gift this Mother’s Day—a mammogram.

Piedmont Newton Women’s Diagnostic Center is hosting a mammogram screening event Saturday, May 19, the Covington News reported, in honor of Mother’s Day. Annual screenings will be accompanied by door prizes, massages and complimentary refreshments, all of which aim to make the experience more enjoyable and relaxing for women.

“We know it can be a scary process, but our team aims to make it as relaxed as possible for each of our patients,” Courtney Perez, MD, a radiologist at the center, told the Covington News. “We focus on patient care to help our patients understand the importance of not delaying this essential screening.

Cancer risk rises as women age, Perez said, and scheduling a yearly mammogram means clinicians will have scans of healthy breast tissue to help spot any abnormalities in the future.

“Breast cancer that’s found early is easier to treat successfully,” she said. “A mammogram is an important step in taking care of yourself and your breasts.”
