Physicians at Northern Arizona Radiology reportedly had been forced to work long hours to re-read exams looking for missed cancers. 

Patients under the age of 50 are opting for the ease and convenience of scheduling their own appointments, and the results may not be limited to mammography.

“It’s vital that imaging centers have a process in place to provide ongoing monitoring of AI once it becomes part of clinical practice,” one expert noted. 

The largest diagnosis deficits were observed for breast, colon and lung cancer, experts detailed in JAMA Network Open. 

“The results suggest that mammography screening can be effective in older women, particularly as life expectancy increases,” researchers contend. 

Phelps Memorial Health Center has completed the necessary remedies, including notifying any women who underwent breast imaging the last two years.

"We hope to not only alleviate the increasing burdens on radiologists worldwide but also reduce disparities in healthcare," one Google AI leader said. 

Researchers speculated on several reasons why the United States sees more breast imaging-related lawsuits than its neighbor to the north.
