Aidoc, ACR Data Science Institute partner to validate AI effectiveness

Aidoc and the American College of Radiology Data Science Institute (ACR-DSI) are now helping artificial intelligence (AI) researchers track the performance of various algorithms with an assist from Nuance's PowerScribe Workflow Orchestration platform.

At the University of Rochester Medicine in New York, Aidoc's "Always-on AI" solution has been integrated into the Nuance platform, where it helps prioritize radiologist worklists and contributes to the ACR-DSI ASSESS-AI registry.

"Our goal in the ACR DSI is to provide clarity on the emerging junction of AI and real clinical care," Bibb Allen Jr., MD, ACR DSI chief medical officer, said in a prepared statement. "Our work with Aidoc and Nuance has demonstrated, for the first time, the ability to close the loop of AI validation, solving one of the burning challenges of the current ecosystem."

"With Aidoc and Nuance together, patients with critical pathologies are prioritized in the radiologist's worklist, accelerating time to patient diagnosis and treatment," David L. Waldman, MD, PhD, chair of imaging sciences at the University of Rochester Medical Center, said in the same statement. "By participating in the ACR registry program, we also ensure the highest quality of patient care and lead the way for quality of care improvement in other hospitals as well. We're excited to be able to demonstrate this complete solution in action on our premises."
