GE HealthCare's latest AI recon tool earns FDA clearance

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration just cleared GE HealthCare’s latest deep learning CT image reconstruction solution.

The health technology giant announced the 510(k) clearance of its True Definition DL solution on Thursday. True Definition DL was designed to help produce detailed, high resolution images without protocol or workflow adjustments.

“For clinicians, diagnostic confidence begins with the ability to clearly visualize subtle structures, differentiate tissues and trust what is seen on the screen,” Chad Rowland, GEHC'S executive director OF Global Premium CT and Photon Counting, said in a statement. “For patients, that clarity can translate into quicker answers, fewer repeat scans and care plans tailored to their specific needs."

The DL solution improves image quality without causing workflow hiccups often associated with longer scan times and higher radiation doses that are needed to acquire detailed images. True definition overcomes these barriers by refining spatial resolution across multiple directions. This improves readers’ ability to visualize fine anatomical variances such as small airways, pulmonary nodules and subtle patterns in bony structures.

“With new tools like deep learning at our disposal, the industry has entered a new era in which reconstruction methods are more accessible to a broad range of providers, delivering sharp, consistent images and enabling care teams to make timely, well-informed decisions that directly impact patient outcomes," Rowland added.

The latest clearance joins GEHC’s growing portfolio of DL solutions, including TrueFidelity DL and True Enhance DL. Each is available on THE Revolution Apex platform and Revolution Vibe for both in-field CT upgrades and new installations.
