Florida rad center closes, holds patient medical records hostage

A Radiology Express in Deerfield Beach, Florida, abruptly closed earlier this month, leaving patients without their medical records and other personal imaging information.

According to a recent report by WSVN 7 News in Miami, the radiology center closed in early October, only leaving a "closed" sign on the door with all doors locked. All employees and the owner, Kaya Colak, MD, were unreachable by phone or email.

Patients who had gone to Radiology Express are now unable to obtain their medical records that they will need in order to have future imaging procedures done by other clinics. According to the report, Colak had declared bankruptcy and a pending lawsuit claims that he didn't pay for a CT scanner.

"They will compare my year-before imaging with my year-present imaging," said retired nurse and former Radiology Express patient Dianne Weaver. "I have two sisters with breast cancer. I absolutely want to have that done.”
