Locum tenens physicians and other healthcare workers looking for temporary gigs—along with healthcare providers hoping to employ them—have a new mobile and online tool to quickly find one another.
Called Shift, the tool is the creation of Health eCareers, the online networking operation.
According to an announcement from the group, the tool sends out notifications of short-term work opportunities via text messaging based on candidates’ preferences for specialty, shift, pay, location and timeframe. Jobseekers can build out their profile with CVs, licensure qualifications, certifications and such. The tool is free to jobseekers.
On the other side of the match, employers post positions on a pay-per-apply basis. The provider org interfaces with a dashboard showing responses to postings, appropriate candidates’ profiles and prompts to adjust their spending on the service.
A pilot version launched May 15 with 3,000 postings and is growing fast, Health eCareers said.
Health eCareers pointed to a 2014 report from Staff Care showing that more than 90 percent of healthcare providers hired temporary physicians in 2013, a 16 percent bump over 2013.
“Healthcare facilities are feeling the pinch of employee shortages and churn, and that’s coincided with the number of healthcare professionals embracing the flexibility and freedom of temporary work, leading to an unprecedented number of short-term positions in the market,” said Bryan Bassett, managing director at Health eCareers.
