One Grand Rapids, Michigan-based teleradiology provider has reportedly expanded its radiologists’ productivity levels by 400 percent, using voice recognition transcription to more than double productivity without an increase in working hours.

Radiology Imaging Solutions credits its nine-month-old Exa PACS system—designed by Konica Minolta Healthcare Americas—for the positive turnaround. According to a release, the company has been able to double the number of imaging sites its radiologists provide services for, as well as use Exa’s Voice Recognition program to circumvent lengthy traditional transcription.

Randy Robinson, the owner of Radiology Imaging Solutions, said in the release that Exa is “a great product, with great people who stand behind it.”

Robinson said implementing Exa has allowed its radiologists to read 2.5 times the number of case studies and decreased report turnaround times by more than 50 percent. Reading times, he said, were cut from 4 or 5 minutes to just 1.

Exa uses Server-Side Rendering to quickly access large files, like 3D mammography files, the release stated. No prefetching is required and the system claims to have a diagnostic-quality Zero Footprint Universal Viewer for DICOM and non-DICOM images, including nuclear medicine and echocardiograms.

“Once we replaced our old PACS with Exa, our radiologists said they could triple their workload and not be overworked,” Robinson said.
