Imaging Biometrics Issued US Patent
Elm Grove, WI – Imaging Biometrics, LLC (IB), a biotechnology company specializing in the development of software solutions for advanced visualization and analytics, today announced that it has been issued a US patent covering a unique technology for magnetic resonance (MR) image data acquisition and post-processing. The patented technology has the potential to improve radiological workflows, reduce costs, and benefit stroke and brain tumor patients.
The current gold standard for diagnosing and monitoring treatment for these patients hinges on two sets of perfusion parameter maps: dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) images. Each set of images provides unique and rich information regarding blood flow and vascular permeability. However, each must be acquired separately and requires additional scan time and multiple injections of gadolinium contrast agent into the patient. Due to the added scan time and additional contrast agent, only one set of data is typically ordered by a physician, thereby limiting the information available for decision-making. The invention, when commercialized, will enable both DSC and DCE datasets to be post-processed from a single MR scan and a single dose of gadolinium contrast agent. The combined capability, known as dual dynamic perfusion, will be contained within IB Neuro; a software module known for robust and accurate DSC analysis.
“The claims of this patent further strengthen our technology portfolio. No other technology enables the collection of both DSC and DCE data at the same time. Providing twice the information using half the resources is a huge step in helping hospitals improve patient care while fighting rising costs. Our development team is already working on integrating this technology, and it is being designed to be fully automated,” said Michael Schmainda, President and CEO.
The dual dynamic perfusion technology is described in detail in patent 8,670,602, issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
