Radiology practice launches investigation, warns patients after data breach

Mid-Delaware Imaging has launched a forensic investigation and warned its customers to be vigilant after an unauthorized party accessed its records.

The Dover-based radiology practice said it first became aware of “unusual activity” in its network earlier this year. A subsequent analysis found that unauthorized individuals may have accessed patient data, compelling leaders to issue an alert on July 14.

Mid-Delaware said that compromised info may have included dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, diagnostic information, lab reports, and health insurance details. In response, they’ve notified the FBI and regulatory authorities, and are implementing additional safeguards.

“MDI is committed to, and takes very seriously, its responsibility to protect all data and health information entrusted to us,” the practice said in a statement. “MDI encourages individuals to remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft and fraud, to review their account statements, and to monitor their credit reports for suspicious activity,” it added later.
