Mednax continues its growth in radiology, adding 10th imaging practice
Healthcare vendor Mednax continues to expand its foothold in radiology, recently adding its 10th practice in the specialty.
The Sunrise, Florida-based company announced Monday, Jan. 6, that it’s acquiring Boca Radiology Group, a private physician group located about 20 miles north of its headquarters in Boca Raton. Practice leaders said they pursued affiliation with larger Mednax to bolster care and expand their reach.
“As the radiology marketplace consolidates, we wanted a strategic partner with geographic scale to further elevate the quality of care we provide to our patients,” Joseph Kleinman, MD, president of Boca Radiology Group, said in a statement. “Through our partnership with Mednax, we will be well-positioned to withstand the ever-evolving healthcare environment, including the transition to value-based care.”
The two parties declined to reveal terms of the cash transaction, but noted that the Boca Raton practice will integrate with Mednax-affiliated Radiology Associates of South Florida, located an hour south, in Miami. Following the acquisition, Mednax Radiology Solutions now includes more than 825 board-certified or eligible professionals, reading nearly 12 million studies a year.
Boca Radiology Group is a more than 50-year-old practice, employing 36 radiologists. It provides a full range of services, according to the announcement, including musculoskeletal, cardiac, oncology, prostate and women’s imaging. It also serves Boca Raton Regional Hospital—part of Baptist Health South Florida—and six of its outpatient centers. With the partnership, Mednax Radiology Solutions will now provide imaging services to all of the BHSF network that includes seven hospitals and 50 outpatient and urgent care centers.
Mednax acquired its ninth practice back in November 2018: Boynton Beach, Florida-based Bethesda Radiology Associates.
