Hologic to acquire Texas imaging-guided fibroid removal firm for $80M cash
Hologic plans to acquire Acessa Health, a firm that specializes in the imaging-guided removal of fibroids, for $80 million in cash, the two companies announced Tuesday.
Based in Austin, Texas, the private firm being acquired specializes in minimally invasive, uterine-sparing solutions for women with symptomatic fibroids. That includes its ProVu system, which combines ultrasound imaging and radiofrequency ablation to guide physicians during such procedures.
Publicly traded Hologic, meanwhile, provides the gamut of women’s health solutions including mammography. It expects the acquisition to generate some $13 million in new revenue for fiscal year 2021.
“Acquiring Acessa Health strengthens our leadership position in the GYN surgical space and broadens our fibroid treatment portfolio with a highly complementary new product,” Essex Mitchell, Hologic’s newly appointed division president in gynecological surgery solutions, said in a statement.
Marlborough, Massachusetts-based Hologic noted that previous studies have found the ProVu system to be a safe alternative to hysterectomy and myomectomy. It also is designed to detect more fibroids when compared to other imaging modalities.
