JACR Op-ed: ER rads need to be heard in tort reform
Emergency radiologists handle a high volume of patients with an expectation of limiting turnaround time for diagnosis. The emergency department also includes many single-encounter patients, with limited medical histories.
In an opinion piece in the Journal of the American College of Radiology, Dipan Danda, MD, and Jonathan Mezricj, MD, JD, MBA, with Yale University’s department of diagnostic radiology and biomedical imaging, argue that emergency radiologists should be engaged in discussions about tort reform.
“Radiologists, through the ACR, American Society of Emergency Radiology and other advocacy groups, need to stay abreast of tort reform bills in various jurisdictions, both state and federal, and should zealously advocate that radiologists share the protections of other emergency healthcare workers and be explicitly included in any such future statutes.”
